Biomass gasification is the use of low-calorie biomass energy sources, which undergo a redox reaction under certain reaction conditions, and then produce flammable gases such as hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The gas produced by this reaction can be used either directly to provide thermal energy or to produce electricity.

What is biomass energy?

What are the characteristics of biomass energy?

  1. Environmental protection. First of all, raw materials are all kinds of wastes, which solves the problem of disposal of some wastes. Secondly, after the oxidation-reduction reaction, the produced gas is carbon monoxide(CO), hydrogen(H2), methane(CH4), polyacetylene(CmHn) and other combustible gases, which does not cause any pollution to the environment.
  2. Biomass energy can be produced again through photosynthesis of plants and animals. It belongs to renewable energy as well as solar energy, water energy, wind energy, etc.
  3. The richness of the total amount. Biomass energy, as the fourth largest energy source on earth, has a wide range of sources. According to statistics, the biomass energy produced by the earth every year is about 10 times the energy consumed by human beings, while the utilization rate of such energy by human beings is less than 3%.
  4. Low production cost. The cost of recycling biomass waste is low, so the cost of using biomass energy to generate electricity is very low, close to 02-0.3RMB / Kw.H, which is equivalent to 60% -70% of the cost of using coal to generate electricity.

Due to the above characteristics of biomass energy, more and more countries have begun to pay attention to the use of such energy. The use of biomass energy to provide power or produce electricity is the future development trend.

Introduction to Biomass Gasification

After incomplete combustion and the oxidation-reduction reaction of biomass energy in the gasifier, a series of combustible gases will be produced. This process is called biomass energy gasification.

After the biomass material enters the gasification furnace, it is dried and heated. As the temperature continues to increase, volatile substances precipitate at high temperatures and undergo a pyrolysis reaction. Pyrolysis gas and carbide react to produce water vapor and carbon dioxide. At the same time, the heat produced can be used for the endothermic reduction of the reduction reaction and the pyrolysis of tar to achieve the best heat utilization.

Dust is discharged from the spiral conveyer at the bottom of the gasifier, and gas is discharged from the exhaust port. At this time, the obtained gas cannot be directly put into production, and it also needs to be purified and filtered to remove dust and tar inside the gas before it can be put into use.

Purification process:

  1. Impurity removing device. The whole set of equipment is equipped with 6 sets of Sacron to ensure the good effect of removing impurities.
  2. Cooling device. The syngas passes through the cold air, condensing the water and tar inside it. In this process, the synthesis gas does not directly contact the air inside the machine but passes through the air duct inside the machine.
  3. Tar filter. The tar filter consists of four tar removers immersed in water.
  4. Tar separator. This machine includes a cooling device, which can make water and tar condense, and then use dry filtration method to discharge tar through centrifugal filtration.
  5. Filter. The inside of the filter contains activated carbon and stainless steel filter screen for the final filtration of tar and water vapor.
  6. Roots blower. Roots blower is the power source of the whole gasification process and purification system. In the whole production process, the role of Roots blower is not only to make the machine run under negative pressure, but also to make the gasification reaction fully, without producing too much carbon dioxide.

Biomass gasification requirements for raw materials

  1. Size of raw materials: The size of biomass particles or blocks must not exceed 30mm.
  2. The humidity of raw materials: moisture content should be ≤20%
